After-School Dreams for a 24hr Community
Have you ever imagined a pain free solution for your kids between the hours of 3:30 and 7pm, that educates holistically as well as providing fun afterschool care?
I turn to a project developed in collaboration with Broadway Malyan for an old friend of mine, Tom Collin and his business partners. Tom and I spent well over a year talking about the project before I even put pen to paper. He is based in Singapore where shopping centres are vast air-conditioned environments, often with very difficult to let upper floors. Some however have accesible roof space.
His solution, Agora Co-Learning Spaces. Agora is a platform before it’s a physical space. It’s an education marketplace for specialist learning providers to offer their courses, experiences, and activities. Parents and their families shop from this market if they choose but can also subscribe to a care package that includes healthy food, with access to a climbable 3D library and ropes course for self- directed learning with fine and gross motor development.
The physical space is decked out with maker environments, loose fit to accommodate activities from physics to baking. As are the adaptable learning spaces themselves that can provide a space for 1-1 maths tuition, a group piano practice session, or a live magic show demonstration.

Is Agora Co-Learning Spaces something completely new? Not quite, but is Agora Co-Learning Spaces a ground-breaking iteration in the development of learning places and childcare for our 24hour economy? Most definitely. The physical proof of concept has now been open a couple of months and Tom reports that it’s going well, click to learn more below, we have notes of reflection on this project to date and an insight to further experiments required.
I wish them all the best for the future and look forward to helping them get into darkened retail environments and activate community places around the world.
